'SOCCER WITHOUT DRUGS - CUP' 1999

A DRUG PREVENTION CAMPAIGN FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

on the occasion of the 38th International Conference of ICAA
16. - 20. August 1999, Vienna, Austria

  • Given the fact that substance abuse presents a severe social - down to the family - and individual problem in countries all over the world
  • Given the fact that worldwide excellent and effective prevention and therapy programs exist which propagate a self-regulated and drug-free life - and many politicians responsible for this matter have developed a considerable high understanding and readiness to help
  • Given the fact that in many places programs for addicted people and their families have to be created or need a higher professional standard
the following organizations as members of the EURO TC (former FDHE) present the idea to arrange a Drug Prevention Campaign "Soccer without Drugs Cup" in Vienna, August 1999:

GRUENER KREIS - AUSTRIA
DROGENHILFE TANNENHOF BERLIN (DHTB) - GERMANY
RUEDLI - SWITZERLAND
VILLA RENATA - ITALY

The 'Soccer without Drugs Cup' will be in the center of the sport events. The cup was donated in 1998 by DHTB. The event took first place during the "European Week on Prevention" 1998 in Koenigs Wusterhausen near Berlin with the following headline "fit for fun - no fun without risk?"

Teams from the tournament in 1998 as well as from other places can and will participate. Among them are teams from different Therapeutic Communities (TCs) as well as from adolescent houses and schools.
The covering idea for the drug prevention campaign and the soccer competition reads as follows:

DRUG PREVENTION EVENTS IN COMBINATION WITH SPORT EVENTS TAKE PLACE ALL OVER THE WORLD SIMULTANEOUSLY ON AUGUST, 17th.
The 'global ankick' = 'global kick- off'

as simultaneous start will demonstrate the necessity of international efforts and good relationships to our communities.

In addition to the sport schedule features such as theater and video workshop, volleyball, dance parties, a discussion forum for adolescents, a forum for parents, and (new this year):
an international Youth Prevention Camp will take place.

The Youth Prevention Camp brings together young people from Europe, North and Latin America and from Asia including TCs . Politicians and colleagues from different facilities as well as from the public sector come together to exchange experiences on addiction and clean living with young people.

The ICAA accepted the proposal in February 1999: The 2nd 'SOCCER WITHOUT DRUGS CUP' will take place in Vienna from the 17th to 20th of August 1999. This event is an official part of the Vienna Conference.

In the name of EURO TC and the organizing TCs of the 2nd SOCCER WITHOUT DRUGS CUP
